Were you happy with Season 8 of Game of Thrones? How would you have improved it?
Season 7 of GoT so far, has been the worst wrap up possible of one of the best & most popular TV series of all time. Why?
The all-powerful Night King, killer of dragons, unstoppable force of nature; father of zombies— He is dispatched in seconds. His entire army evaporates into little ice-cubes. Why? All because a little girl choking in his grasp sticks a knife in him. Come on! What a weak ending! And it happens before the tremendously important purpose & powers of the Night King (hinted at in earlier episodes) are revealed.
Daenerys who has become THE major heroine of all young girls – with many new babies having been named after her– changes from a beautiful, invincible, fair and just queen, mother of dragons –into a completely ugly, nasty crazy bitch who destroys and burns Kings Landing and all it’s innocent people by burning them to death. She does not even bother to send her remaining dragon to burn down the Red Keep tower where the real enemy, Cersei is tearfully watching her defeat unfold. Her defeat was a bit to quick and easy.
Jamie Lannister earlier has a redemption where he shows he cares about people & loves Knight Brianne. He seeks repentance for his incestuous alliance with the evil Queen Cersei. Then in the Season 8, wrap up he immediately runs back to embrace & save his bad bad sister Cersei. Wow! Was that out of character?
Evil Euron swims ashore; gives upon on the important objective- killing Daenery’s remaining dragon to fight Jamie for no reason. Then after a ho-hum battle, where both Euron & Jamie are fatally stabbed. Both seem to be dead. But wait! Jamie is able to get up in near perfect health & hike through an impassible burning city to reunite with his evil sister and help her escape. What will happen is reserved for the final scene coming next week. But the damage IMO has been done. My ending? Surely it would have been to save the last epic battle for the Night King. He confronts and defeats Cersei. Then in my surprise ending, he turns out to be not such a bad guy.
Daenerys? Well I have not worked it out yet, but I think Daenerys should stay an admired heroine. Maybe she goes back to Dofraki-Land to raise more dragons and peacefully unite the whole world with kind of a Utopian United Nations that works. Yeah, that’s weak too. but better than her going nuts and getting so completely out of character. The ending seems to have been a rush job with not even 5% of the thought and effort that went into all the prior episodes. My usual answers & my books have to do with making more money, getting more love, cooking like a master chef (which I was once) & staying healthy. But I couldn’t resist chiming in on G o T –my all time favorite until this last, utterly disappointing season 8 wind-up.
